| Raised in Portland, Oregon, I spent many youthful summers in the Sisters/Camp Sherman/Bend area, giving me a somewhat unique outlook on Central Oregon. I started skiing at Bachelor Butte in the early 1960's, and my first visit to Sunriver was with my family in the early 70's. Although I clearly remember the visit, there wasn't much going on in Sunriver at the time, and it was not too exciting for a college student. But Bend, and especially Mt. Bachelor, provided plenty of fun and adventure, which kept me coming back on a regular basis. After spending 25 years in the construction business, first as a union carpenter, then as a company owner, then a construction manager for larger firms, I finally decided to return permanently to the Sunriver area in 1999. Sunriver and all of Central Oregon have undergone dramatic change in the last 30 years. I believe that the changes may be even more evident to those of us who have been periodic vistors, than to those who have resided here for the entire time. Sunriver has matured into a wonderful family resort, with fun and adventure for all ages. Bend has grown from a mill town into a small city, with everthing that everyone needs in a small package. Central Oregon offers a world-class variety of outdoor experience, wonderful music venues & festivals, great restaurants and outstanding museums, just to name a few. |
